Management Changes

Arthur | April 5, 2009

After some long soul searching, conversations with RL and Sl friends, co-works we are going to make the some changes to our management.  This should make the operations work much more efficiently.   The most important thing is even though we are putting lines of authority in place, any one at any time will be able to come directly to any of management.

Chief Executive Officers (CEO)
Kai Eldrich and Arthur Fermi will be responsible for strategy, long term goals, and general direction of Fermi, we will still be here regularly, and always be available for questions, but will generally focusing on the future and assisting the President & COO.

President & Chief Operations Officer (COO)
Bosco Gray will be taking the tough job, Bosco will be responsible for the daily operations of Fermi, Cinderella, Northlight and Phil Hanner (Upon his return) will report directly to her.   She will be the go to person for all operational issues.

Chief Retail Operations (CRO)
Cinderella Winkler will be responsible for all retail activites, which she is currently doing with ease.  Any retail question should be directed to her.  Cinderella will be the one setting prices, rule changes and rental boxes upgrades (with Arts help on the upgrades).  She currently does not have any help, but I can see a point where she has some assistants.

Chief Sandbox Operations (CSO)
Northlight Sodwind who has filled this role for a long time now, will get even more of a hand.  He will be responsible for all  FSBU Administrators and FSBU Helpers, clean up griefer control, sandbox hiring and point person for changes to rules and sandbox procedures.

FSBU Administrator
FSBU Administrators are the senior sandbox staff, they have been around awhile and know the ropes, and are generally in the sandbox more than helpers, promotion to this level will come from the CSO.

FSBU Helpers
FSBU Helpers are newer sandbox staff, or sandbox staff that is unable have regular attendance at Fermi Sandbox

Arthur Fermi & Kai Eldrich

Bosco Gray
President & COO

Chief Retail Operations                 Chief Sandbox Operations

FSBU Administrator

FSBU Helpers

Comments:
In the most general terms, and in most cases, the president reports to the CEO. The CEO is primarily responsible for strategy: long-range planning, company direction. They are the most direct interface between the board of directors/stockholders and the company’s managers and employees.

The president’s role tends to be operational and tactical: They keep the wheels on the car, so to speak, and attends to the day-to-day business of the company. They are  the manager of all managers.

Group Invites

Arthur |

Hi everyone. Without all of you who are reading this right now, Fermi Sandbox would be just another sim at Linden Labs. You all contribute to what is everything Fermi! To help you just a little more, the “Everyone” role has been changed to allow you to “Invite New Person”. Please invite people that you know or have talked with, and avoid randomly asking people in the sandbox. If you need to learn how to invite, ask one of our staff, thanks!

What did the educators ever do for us? Let me tell you!

Arthur | March 24, 2009

We help create the builders, scripters, texture designers, business owners, shop owners, shoppers, escorts, and everything else.  Of course I’m not saying everyone is helped by an educator, but many are.  I am not going to talk about everyone else, cause I run Fermi Sandbox and University, and we partner with SL Learning Centre to get our classes out.  The partnership is new, in the past we did our own classes.  There are really two types of educators in SL, those who teach RL things using SL as a medium and those who teach SL things.  Most major schools, they teach RL things to their students, it’s also a marketing thing for them.  Now for the rest of us, we teach people how to get by in SL, let me list some of the classes that have been given by Fermi Sandbox and University.

•    How to put prim hair on
•    How to unpack a box from a store
•    How to use the grid to build
•    How to texture things
•    How object permissions work
•    How to make a notecard for your products
•    How to build (beginner, intermediate and advanced) items
•    How to script (beginner and intermediate)
•    How to write an offline indicator
•    How to setup a vendor

And that is just a small amount of stuff we have taught.  This doesn’t count the countless people that have been helped by walking up, that have IMed the group all asking for help.   Countless seems like a big number until you realize that Fermi Sandbox and University, SL Learning Centre (aka SLLC), along with Tutorials 2 Go is a total of about 5500 SL residents.  TUI has over 2800 people, Script Academy over 1200, and these are just a few of the many SL Educational facilities that help people in SL on a daily basis.  (sorry to everyone I left out and it’s a lot of you!)

Now I’m sure your asking this - “it must be big money”, yeah, if you think ten or twenty L in tips is big money.  “Oh what about the land owners, they are racking it in”.  It costs a 130,000L to run Fermi Sandbox and University, we generate about 90,000 from rentals around the sandbox and about $20,000L in donations, yeah, your math is correct, about 20,000L short, that comes out of my pocket.  Now 45,000 of that is a ½ sim that is used for teaching, nice space and staffing needs like presentations.  I’m not asking for money, or anyone’s gratuities, or a shiny metal, I just thought that it needed to be said right away, we contribute significant amounts to the social, business, art, building, scripting, and fabric of SL, and without the educators, the world would be a less fantastic place!
