Current status of the U

JeZeBeLe Dagger | January 13, 2009

Since late October, we have seen a consistent rise in the traffic at Fermi Sandbox. To the point we make about 45 thousand traffic point visitors a day. This doesnt mean we have 45 thousand people visiting we do have a consistent 3o to 45 avatars in sim. Because of this our classroom quality has plummeted. Instructors have been pounding their heads trying to muster up ways to teach quality classes at the sandbox without the conflict of the issues involved with the traffic and building quality within the sandbox. Some heavy scripting and primwork is constantly taxing the resources of the sim which has given us a harder time to teach the students at FSBU.

Weve come up with some minor solutions. We don’t need to post our classes in events search engine if the instructors prefer. (This was suggested by Kai) Keep our classes in group. We should try to teach classes during the off hours of peak use times in the sim (Monday through Thursday early Morning preferably UK Time) and we should find an alternative location to teach our classes.

Well we have 4 spaces available of which 2 are for all staff.

Cork has his school platform. Lara Shepherd has her school as well. I created SUDS school of Underwater Dreams. We have 2 parcels on 2 separate sims 1 of which is almost lag free. The school is a SL Teachers without Borders resource.

Being that FSBU is a affiliate of that group. It gets the perks of being able ot use the classrooms of the group. Pretty much people from all over the SLT affiliation have immed us telling us we can use certain classes and classrooms even a user at the sandbox said we could use her classroom. We found that we have a certain criteria we need to have met in order to have a classroom in other schools or platforms. (We will test them out and see what works)

Arthur has come up with a HUD for security purposes for the staff.

I sent out 27 questionnaires to anybody with the FSBU instructor, training, or tutor tags at FSBU. To get their feedback as to why they havent been teaching to get some honest feedback. The majority response is the lag is relentless and we can not teach at FSBU. Luckily we have found solutions to fix this problem. In the method of relocation.

The Staff at FSBU haven’t been actively teaching for about six months we have had a consistent average of teaching 3 classes a week over the weekends. I don’t mind the day a instructor teaches as long as they teach.

We arent going to require instructors to use the blog anymore to post. IF they give me their class information I can post for them. Its not that difficult for me to do this.

Every day this week I have contributed ideas and notes to the Staff at FSBU to get feedback and promote their teaching.

I really think its time to ask for the staff to step forward and help us re awaken the FSBU community.

I am certainly open to suggestions. I know we all burn out at some point if we work too hard. It seems people have had long breaks in teaching between classes that other SL and RL realities get in the way. Believe me I do understand.
There is talk about Fermi getting a new sim in six months time. Ideas are generating.  An Alternative is to get FSBU a parcel of its own and pay 17 USD a month if it needs its own space completely ran by Fermi Sandbox. (We’ll see)

Thats an update of sorts.

Theres a positive look on the horizon. We cant teach so much at FSBU classrooms. We can however relocate and if you have a space you think is perfect for us. 500 prims minimum, No overwhelming scripts being ran in the parcel or sim (Because if we teach scripting classes this is very necessary) and a willingness to promote education in SL. Contact me and I will forward the information to Kai.
Hope to see you at our classes.
Take care!

& Turn in those questionnaires!
